As part of its effort to develop digitally-delivered training modules for professionals in educational measurement, the ITEMS team is seeking volunteers who can collaborate with the editors as well as national and international colleagues on the development and delivery of content through Articulate / Storyline 360 and the Elevate learning management system (LMS). To support the work of this person in particular aspects of work we seek individuals who are willing to donate their time to provide instructional design support, which require less time involvement than the lead designer position and can be for shorter negotiable time frames (minimally six months). A typical work commitment is around 4 hours per week on average.
Key responsibilities for the instructional design support appointment include:
- Collaborate with the ITEMS editor, the lead instructional designer, and content developers to develop selected aspects of modules (e.g., quiz questions, performance tasks, online resources)
- Review, edit, and integrate instructional resources provided by content developers for characteristics like completeness, appropriateness, and instructional flow within the module
Key skill sets for this position include:
- Experience or a genuine interest in using modern course development software like Articulate / Storyline 360
- Effective oral and written communication skills to facilitate interactions with the ITEMS editor, content developers, and consulting partners
- Passion for designing visually appealing, didactically coherent, and intellectually engaging content in the area of educational measurement
- Willingness to work in an environment with frequently evolving design constraints that combines artistic and scientific elements
- At least some formal training in educational measurement foundations
Like other positions within NCME, this position is on a voluntary basis as a service to the NCME and the broader educational measurement community. The position will be formally recognized in various online outlets and at the NCME breakfast meeting but there is no financial remuneration at the moment.
