Catherine Gewertz of Education Week was the well-deserving winner of the inaugural Excellence in Public Communication Award in 2019. Committee members are now eagerly awaiting nominees for the 2020 award. This award recognizes a work or body of works that explains educational measurement concepts and their significance to groups of education stakeholders (e.g., administrators, classroom teachers, parents) or to groups not directly involved in education (e.g., leaders from other industries, community leaders, the general public) and/or provides a framework or strategy for better understanding educational measurement concepts. We encourage nominations of individuals, multiple collaborators, and organizations; NCME members and external candidates, such as members of the media, are all eligible, as well. The winner receives a plaque, $1,000 cash, and the admiration and gratitude of our NCME family!

A nomination must include:

  1. A statement (up to 1,000 words) summarizing the contribution of the individual(s) nominated, including a description of context and a justification for why the work effectively contributes to the public’s understanding of educational measurement;
  2. Examples (or links to examples) of up to three relevant media contributions (e.g., digital or print articles in newspapers or popular magazines, video clips, radio or television presentations); and
  3. An up-to-date Vita for each nominated individual.
