PLDs Squared - Professional Learning Dialogue through Performance Level Descriptors

This event is being organized by the NCME State and Local Assessment Leader (SALAL) SIGIMIE.

When we as educators have a deep understanding of high standards, evidence of learning, student mastery, and high-quality formative and summative assessments, the impact on our daily practice is powerful and makes a strong difference in our students' learning and growth. Performance Level Descriptors (PLDs) are the link between Learning Standards and performance standards. However, these descriptors can be vague and may not show teachers what it looks like and sounds like when a student is at mastery, approaching mastery or exceeding mastery. In this two-hour train-the-trainer session, the presenters demonstrate how you can train teachers to use PLDs and released items to support the instruction that is happening within your classrooms, creating a pathway within your school system for a more balanced assessment system.

This session will be of interest for those involved with the analysis assessment results, using data to inform instruction, conducting professional development for in-service and preservice educations, assessment design, implementation, and evaluation of state assessments as well as performance level descriptors including state education agencies, higher education agencies, policymakers and other stakeholders from research to classroom practice.
