Upcoming Meeting

2023 Meeting - Chicago, IL

Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile

April 12-15, 2023

We are pleased to announce that the 2023 National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) Annual Meeting will take place April 12-15, with April 12 as the in-person training day. There will also be virtual training sessions and presentations from March 28-30, 2023.

Theme: Leveraging Measurement for Better Decisions

We do measurement for a reason, and we believe that reason is to collect data to inform decisions. Decisions that consider data from good measurement practices are better decisions than those that do not. Many aspects of measurement are under attack right now. Some criticisms seem justified; some do not. We do need to improve our processes and tools. But we also need to be advocates for the appropriate use and application of the tools of our profession. We can make using measurement and assessment data ‘cool’ again. And we should. How can we do this? By making improvements in our processes and products, by communicating more effectively how data can be a force for good, by ensuring our use of data is a force for good, by being more collaborative both within and outside NCME, and by continuing to challenge, prod, encourage, question and listen to each other.

NCME GIVES BACK

A message from NCME President, Deborah Harris:
This year in conjunction with the NCME Annual Meeting, we are asking NCME members and attendees to consider supporting Bernie's Book Bank through a monetary donation.

I am the posterchild for ‘it’s not hoarding if it’s books’. I grew up in a family with two first-generation parents who both read aloud to us. Books feature prominently on any family gift lists. Visits with my sister typically involve bookstore excursions. Local book drives and library sales can count me in.

I believe reading and owning one’s own books are especially important for children and young adults. In addition to the obvious benefits of reading in terms of education, books opened new worlds for me and exposed me to things I didn’t have access to in the town where I grew up. I would like all kids to have that opportunity. Bernie’s Book Bank sources, processes, and distributes quality new and gently used children’s books to significantly increase book ownership among under-served infants, toddlers and school-age children throughout Chicagoland. I encourage you to visit their website, https://www.berniesbookbank.org/, to learn more about this organization.

When you donate to Bernie’s Book Bank, you give children so much more than reading materials. You are providing the opportunity for children to reimagine the world, see themselves in print and pictures, uncover new skills, and enjoy the gift of imagination and hope.

Please consider joining me on behalf of NCME’s ‘giving back’ initiative and the kids in the Chicagoland area by donating to Bernie’s Book Bank from now through the conclusion of the Annual Meeting.
