This year the NCME Educators of Measurement (EoM) SIGIMIE has been taking steps toward the goal of increasing the number of student applicants to graduate programs in measurement. The scope of our work includes understanding the issues surrounding recruitment both from the measurement program perspective and the student perspective. Our next step is to learn more from measurement students about what is necessary to recruit and engage them within the field.

To do this, the EoM SIGIMIE plans to have an open conversation with current graduate students in measurement programs. This conversation will assist us in developing a survey of measurement graduate students planned for February/March 2024.

The NCME EoM SIGIMIE invites the measurement community to join a conversation surrounding ways to increase the measurement student population. All are welcome, but we are especially interested in hearing from current students. Topics to discuss will include how current students were drawn to the measurement field, barriers to entry into the measurement field, ways in which students can engage more in NCME, potential marketing ideas, and potential undergraduate involvement in our field.

The NCME Educators of Measurement (EoM) SIGIMIE is taking the next step toward the goal of increasing student applicants to measurement graduate programs. The SIGIMIE will provide a brief update on our work on this issue. To continue to move forward, we need to learn more from measurement program faculty involved in recruiting and maintaining student engagement in the field. The open conversation will assist in gathering information to inform a survey of programs planned for December 2023. The EoM SIGIMIE invites you to join a conversation surrounding ways in which programs can collaborate to increase our student population. Topics to discuss will include the sharing of data to track progress, early student engagement in NCME, marketing ideas, undergraduate involvement in our field, and what we need to know from programs to inform a national agenda of recruiting.

Early career scholars of Educational Measurement meet a plethora of challenges that can be very difficult to tackle. How do you best start your research career as a measurement scholar while also teaching, advising, and providing service to the profession? How can you ensure that your scholarship is growing toward high impact while also being the best teacher, advisor, and colleague you can be? How do you balance your research time with requests to assist other projects that leverage your skills? How do you balance all your scholarly activities with your non-work life? (Yes, there is such a thing as non-work life!)
