ITEMS Editor - Application Deadline

NCME is seeking a new Editor for the Instructional Topics in Educational Measurement Series (ITEMS)! The Editor will oversee the development of new modules featuring the latest topics in psychometrics. As the ITEMS Editor, your contributions will shape the education of measurement practitioners and your leadership will ensure that ITEMS remains a premier resource for professional development and learning in educational measurement.

What is ITEMS?
So much more than a clever Acronym! ITEMS began in 1987 as an educational module contained within the Educational Measurement: Issues and Practice (EMIP) Journal. Today ITEMS has become a robust digital resource containing both printed instructional materials and digital lessons on dozens of topics in educational measurement. The goal of each ITEMS module is to provide measurement practitioners with an applied lesson on one specific topic that is currently relevant in the measurement field.

What does the ITEMS Editor do?
Heaps! The ITEMS Editor shapes ITEMS content by identifying topics for future educational modules. In addition, they work with instructors to assist with module outlines and advise on content and instructional design. Furthermore, the Editor builds relationships throughout the field by engaging with potential module instructors.

Am I qualified?
If you have read this far, I bet you are! There are no specific prerequisites for ITEMS Editor. That said, candidates should be passionate about the field of educational measurement, and ideally be skilled in developing instructional content. The ideal candidate will have keen insight into emerging trends and methodologies within the field.

Great! How do I apply?
It’s Easy! Please send your Curriculum Vitae accompanied by a cover letter explaining your relevant experience and vision for ITEMS to Jerome Clauser and Hong Jiao, co-chairs of the NCME Publications Committee (ncmepubs@gmail.com). Letters of recommendation are welcome, but not required.

Please submit materials by May 30, 2024 with appointment expected in mid-2024. The appointed individual will shadow the current Editor for the remainder of 2024 and would begin their three-year term as Editor from January 2025.
