Conversations with Graduation Students on Recruiting to Measurement Programs

In 2024 the NCME Educators of Measurement (EoM) SIGIMIE has been taking steps toward the goal of increasing the number of student applicants to graduate programs in measurement. The scope of our work includes understanding the issues surrounding recruitment both from the measurement program perspective and the student perspective. Our next step is to learn more from measurement students about what is necessary to recruit and engage them within the field.

To do this, the EoM SIGIMIE plans to have an open conversation with current graduate students in measurement programs. This conversation will assist us in developing a survey of measurement graduate students planned for February/March 2024.

The NCME EoM SIGIMIE invites the measurement community to join a conversation surrounding ways to increase the measurement student population. All are welcome, but we are especially interested in hearing from current students. Topics to discuss will include how current students were drawn to the measurement field, barriers to entry into the measurement field, ways in which students can engage more in NCME, potential marketing ideas, and potential undergraduate involvement in our field.
